Mission
In preparing myself to campaign for the office of Justice of the Peace, I had to first consider why I wanted the position, what did I have personally and professionally to offer that position and was I willing to go through the long application process (the campaign) to secure that position. After much consideration I have personally answered all of the questions.
Seeking the position of Justice of the Peace was not a last minute thought, but a long term consideration of mine.
After practicing law over the past 14 years, I have found how important having a judge that follows the law and can apply it to the facts thereby rendering a judgment that is fair to all parties. This is more important than ever at the Justice of the Peace level since many parties appear in court without an attorney and depend on the judge to know the law and apply it fairly.
As an attorney, I appreciate when judges are aware of the law regarding a case before them or a judge considers the law provided to them by an attorney.
The position of Justice of the Peace in many ways is the legal hub of the community. It not only affects individual citizens but many businesses are frequent users of the court as the jurisdictional limits have been increased to $10,000.
To serve the citizens of Harris County’s Precinct 3 Place 2 as their Justice of the Peace would be an honor and a position I have considered personally for years.
Secondly, I had to consider what makes me a good choice for Justice of the Peace. I think some of the most important individual traits of a good judge are patience, a good basic attitude towards people, and a primary understanding of the requirements of the position. Furthermore, I have been a certified Mediator since 1990 and have been successful in settling numerous cases without the necessity of trial. That additional perspective will help me when considering cases before me as conflict many times is based on issues that are more personal than legal. When addressed, on many occasions, it seems to help resolve the legal issues. I believe volunteer mediators would be helpful in resolving cases in the JP Court.
I believe that I possess the temperament, patience and background that would be beneficial in handling the many diverse cases that come through the court as well as the administrative duties required to fulfill that position. The Justice of the Peace position has many staff positions that are necessary to handle the requirements of the office. Prior to my fourteen (14) years as an attorney, I was in the retail business for 20 years which at one time required me to handle up to 150 employees which included payroll, scheduling and general operations of those businesses.
Lastly, I have talked to several who have been involved in political campaigns. They educated me about the demands physically, emotionally and financially when going through a campaign. Therefore, I discussed this with my family and friends and they have all encouraged me to take this step.
The success of my campaign will ultimately stand on my willingness to do the things required at every level to gain the support of the voters. The public’s belief in my bid for Justice of the Peace will be based on my efforts and ability to prove to them that I will work hard before and after the campaign is over.
To ensure a successful outcome I will be asking not only for your vote, but for you to join our team by giving of your time and resources. It will take the efforts of all and I want to thank you in advance for taking the time to consider the request and join us to bring responsibility, integrity, and accountability to the office of Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 Place 2 of Harris County, Texas.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
I am with kindest regards,
Dane Listi
